If you put your ear close enough, you might just pick up the hammer blows from the public housing projects that transformed Sweden during the 1950s and '60s. This classic wallpaper from the Million Programme era is in fact the most sold wallpaper type in the history of Sweden. This Boroton design from Boråstapeter is a superb example of a time period where function and quality were key when papering the moulded concrete walls that rebuilt the country. The pattern's traditional functional graphic pays an aesthetic tribute to both technology and mass production. Today, we see this old classic in a whole new light, still open to interpretation as it is a product of modernism. Who knows, you might even spot signs of modern graphics in the smallpatterned print that the building contractors of the time never even registered.
